Technology: By Tyler Robinson
The 1980’s were home to a large jump in Technological developments from medicine and computers to other every day advancements that would help the American people go about their lives. The 80’s were surrounded by new entertainment such as music but Americans couldn’t constantly attend concerts and it was extremely inconvenient to carry around boom boxes which lead to the development of the Walkman brought to the world by Sony. This would allow Americans to take the music they want on the go and open a new door to the world of portable music. This would also later lead into the end of the cassette tape and present a new form of portable storage for music in the form of a CD which was invented in 1982, only two years after the first Walkman. Music was not the only thing growing as computers were now becoming more developed with the release of the IBM PC in 1980 and the invention of the internet in 1982 which would unknowingly grow to be one of the most useful and abundant amount of stored information than any library could ever hold. In 1983 the trade mark Apple Company would also begin with their first line of computers. This company much like the way the internet grew would soon become one of the largest computer manufacturers in the world. Another computer technology coming into the 1980’s would be Microsoft invented by Bill Gates in 1985. Electronics weren’t the only things rising with the time though, as new vaccines were being made as well such as the first Hepatitis B Vaccine in 1981. Other things like the first DNA fingerprinting for helping in crimes brought in 1985 or the Columbian space shuttle in 1981 were also large advancements in the field of science. Things such as video games were also advancing in the 80’s such as the Nintendo entertainment system in 1983 and later the Nintendo Game Boy in 1989, bringing enjoyment to families everywhere. Other odd things such as Synthetic Skin or the disposable camera were also brought in 1986 furthering the field of advancements in the 1980’s.
