Health Care: By Tyler Robinson
The 1980’s were home to many challenges economically with Regan’s rule in Government. With his new found power in politics he took the U.S. and pointed it in the right direction. Rejecting the engagement of the soviets, Regan pushed a doctrine of U.S. unilateralism. The welfare system in the U.S. was also weak at this time but with Regan following the European health care program the U.S. now had an expanded Medicare and Medicaid, helping spread coverage to many people. As Regan was following European Health care, people also thought that the implementation of long vacations and short work weeks with paid parental leave would also come into play as this seemed like a possible feat for the government. The Political reality was thought to be changed by Regan’s presence as he was focused on rolling back the welfare state as well as implementing many cuts for social programs. One of his first targets was legal aid which was providing help for people with low income. Regan cut this program back drastically as well as making sure they couldn’t file against the government.
